ANSWERS

Does schema markup help AI visibility?

Schema markup formats facts already on your page — prices, reviews, organization details — into a structure machines can parse without guessing. It must describe accurate facts that are visible on the page. Schema can clarify those facts and support eligible search features, but it does not guarantee AI citations. ye5's GEO Web audit checks whether your schema matches your visible content.

What does schema markup do?

Schema.org is a shared vocabulary for labeling facts for machines. It is commonly expressed in JSON-LD, and also in Microdata or RDFa. It marks a price as a price, a review as a review, an organization as an organization. The label doesn't invent the underlying fact. Schema must describe facts present on the page; a parser still has to find the fact there.

Does schema markup cause AI citations?

Schema clarifies facts for parsers and can make a page eligible for supported search features. It does not guarantee that any model retrieves, weighs, or quotes that page over another. Structured is not the same as cited. The plausible mechanism is indirect: clean, consistent facts are easier to extract, and extraction is a precondition for citation (see: What makes content citable to an AI model?).

Which schema types matter most?

Match the schema type to the page. These four are common examples on brand sites:

  • —Organization — name, logo, founding date, social profiles. Feeds knowledge graphs and disambiguates your brand from similarly named companies.
  • —Product — price, availability, category. States the facts a customer question is usually asking for.
  • —FAQPage — question-and-answer pairs that mirror the visible text on the page. FAQPage does not produce Google FAQ rich results; that feature ended in May 2026.
  • —Review or AggregateRating describes genuine visible reviews for an appropriate item. Follow current type-specific eligibility rules; do not aggregate ratings copied from other sites or expect self-serving organization reviews to earn Google stars.

Should you add schema markup?

Add relevant, accurate markup and validate it. It costs little relative to the page it describes. It also removes ambiguity for any parser — search engine, AI crawler, or knowledge graph — reading your site. The catch is accuracy. Schema markup that contradicts your visible text is worse than none — it signals unreliable data. ye5's GEO Web audit checks whether your schema matches what's on the page. It also runs machine-access checks that show what automated readers can and cannot reach (see: What is ClaudeBot?).

FAQ

Does removing schema markup hurt AI visibility?

Removing accurate markup removes clarity for parsers and can end eligibility for supported search features. AI citations were never guaranteed either way, so the loss is the clean description of your visible facts.

Can I generate schema automatically instead of writing it by hand?

Yes. Many site platforms and plugins generate basic schema from existing fields — price, title, category. Auto-generated schema still needs a check against the visible page. A mismatch is the real risk, not the generation method.
