AI VISIBILITY SUITE

ANSWERS

Does FAQ schema still matter?

Visible FAQs still matter when they answer genuine customer questions with complete, accurate answers. FAQPage markup is optional: Google ended FAQ rich results in May 2026, and no universal AI citation benefit is established by adding the type. If you use it, the markup must match the visible text. ye5's GEO Web audit checks whether your markup and your visible content agree.

What FAQPage schema structures

FAQPage is a schema.org type built to pair a visible question with its answer in a machine-readable format, and adding it is optional.

  • —Schema.org is a vocabulary commonly expressed in JSON-LD, and also in Microdata or RDFa.
  • —Each Question entity carries one acceptedAnswer — one question, one answer, no branching.
  • —The answer text must match what a visitor reads on the page — a structured copy, not a separate claim.

A mismatch between what's marked up and what's visible is a red flag to automated readers, not a bonus. Keep the two in sync.

Google ended FAQ rich results in May 2026

FAQPage markup does not produce Google FAQ rich results, because that feature ended in May 2026. Whether a search engine displays an expandable FAQ snippet is that platform's own decision, and it can change without notice. The value of an FAQ sits in the visible answers a customer reads.

Genuine customer questions and complete visible answers do the work

A plain question followed by one self-contained visible answer is what makes a page citable, with no dependency on the rest of the page (see: What makes content citable to an AI model?). Markup labels structure that has to already exist in your visible text. Writing FAQ content that holds up as a standalone answer is a separate discipline from adding the markup (see: How do I write an FAQ page AI will quote?).

Does FAQ schema guarantee an AI citation?

No universal AI citation benefit is established by adding FAQPage markup. Markup is not access control. It is one optional input alongside crawlability, rendering, and the other schema types (see: Does schema markup help AI visibility?). ye5's GEO Web audit checks FAQPage markup against your visible FAQ text. It finds where the markup and the page disagree, so you can fix the gap first.

FAQ

Is adding FAQPage schema the same as writing FAQ content?

No. The visible answer is the work. The optional markup is a machine-readable tag on text that already exists on the page, not new copy.

Did Google stop showing FAQ rich results?

Yes. That feature ended in May 2026, so FAQPage markup no longer produces those results. The visible FAQ still serves readers who need the answer.

What if my FAQPage schema doesn't match my visible FAQ text?

Fix the mismatch so the markup describes accurate facts that are visible on the page. Markup is not access control, so a contradiction only misdescribes your content.
